Design and application of automatic production line equipment for steel drum coated with polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) coating

Design and Application of Automatic Production Line Equipment for Steel Drums Coated with Polyvinyl Fluoride (PVF) Coating

Wu Zhonghai

Polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) is a type of fluoropolymer coating that offers exceptional weather resistance, anti-moisture, anti-mold, and anti-corrosion properties. It is non-toxic and safe for use in food packaging applications. Compared to traditional powder coatings or baking varnishes, PVF requires specific process conditions during application to ensure high-quality finishes. This paper presents the design and implementation of an automated production line for spraying GBL standard 200L steel drums with ZFT-8 PVF coating, developed by our company.

1. Design Basis and Technical Requirements

1.1 Production Program

- Sprayed product: GB325 standard 200L steel drum

- Coating grade: ZFT-8 (for food packaging containers)

- Workpiece size: Φ560mm × 900mm

- Annual output: 100,000 pieces

- Total power consumption: 430kW

- Factory space: 72m × 5m × 8m

2. Design Principles

The production line design emphasizes advanced technology, efficient operation, and compliance with safety standards. The layout ensures smooth workflow, easy maintenance, and optimal performance. Key equipment is selected based on process requirements, ensuring consistent coating quality and meeting all technical specifications.

3. Process and Main Parameters

3.1 Process Flow

Workpiece on-line → Pre-treatment → Drying → Spraying → Plasticization → Workpiece off-line

3.2 Main Process Parameters (see Table 1)

Table 1

Time (min)228~103~510~15

Conveyor speed: v = 0.8 m/min (adjustable between 0.5 and 1.5 m/min).

3.3 Workpiece Hanging Method

The pre-treatment line uses a vertical suspension conveyor with 800mm spacing, while the spraying line uses horizontal chain transmission for better efficiency.

4. Composition and Features of Production Line Equipment

The system consists of three main sections: pre-treatment, spraying (for the barrel body, bottom, and cover), and plasticization drying tunnel. Each component is designed for optimal performance and reliability.

4.1 Pretreatment Equipment

The pretreatment process includes degreasing, washing, and drying. The degreasing tank is insulated and equipped with a circulation pump for efficient solution flow. The water washing tank uses a circulation pump to enhance cleaning effectiveness, while the drying tunnel employs far-infrared heating for rapid and uniform drying.

4.2 Spraying Equipment

The spraying system includes a spray chamber, exhaust fan, plate chain, and automatic spray guns. For internal coating, a pneumatic motor drives a high-speed spray disc, ensuring even coverage. The bottom and cover are sprayed using both automatic and manual systems, improving productivity and flexibility.

4.3 Plasticization Tunnel

The tunnel is designed with multiple temperature zones to accommodate different parts of the drum. It features electric heating, temperature control, and an exhaust system to ensure safety and quality. The tunnel is also equipped with alarm systems for continuous monitoring.

5. Conveyor System

The system includes a suspended conveyor and two plate conveyors. The suspended conveyor is ideal for pre-treatment, while the plate conveyor ensures proper rotation of the drum during the plasticization process. A special transfer mechanism allows seamless movement between the spray and plasticization stages.

6. Conclusion

The PVF coating project has been successfully implemented, with the production line meeting all design and performance criteria. The final product meets national and industry standards, proving the effectiveness of the automated system. This development marks a significant advancement in the application of PVF coatings for industrial and commercial use.

Shank of nails:

Smooth Shank Nails: There are no deformations on the shank, making nails with a smooth shank the easiest to drive.Smooth shank nails offer the least pull-out resistance whencompared with spiral and ring shanks.

Concrete Nails: It is manufactured from ductile, high strength carbon steel and designed for hand hammer driving into medium strength concrete and solid block.

Roofing Nails: A nail used for attaching paper or shingles to roof battens or sheathing; usually with a large head.

Annular Ring Shank: Annular threads or ''rings" areformed on the shank to increase withdrawal capacity. The[rings" create an interlock between the shank of the nailand the wood, providing superior holding power.

Spiral Shank: A spiral ''thread" on the shank causes thenail to spin during installation, creating a thread-like interlockwith the wood, which increases withdrawal capacity.Spiral-shank nails are designed to drive easier into harderwoods and dense materials while still providing increasedwithdrawal resistance.
