IMD process and equipment needs

The process of IMD probably consists of the following four steps:

1. print

Print on the transparent film to print the pattern that the customer wants. Of course, a screen printing machine is needed for printing. If the conditions are good, they are good. If the conditions are normal, the general ones are different.

In fact, printing is very important for IMD. The quality of printing is good or not. The appropriateness of the ink will be related to the ease of other processes in the future. For example, if you have not selected the right ink and the drying is not enough, then the phenomenon of ink flushing is very easy to occur in the subsequent process.

Basically speaking, special IMD ink must be selected for ink selection. If it is a solvent-based ink, the drying must be sufficient, and the mesh number of the screen should be greater than 300.

2. forming

Many people in the injection molding industry call the injection molding process molding. What we mean by molding here does not mean that, it means processing the printed film into the shape required by the customer. If you need a mobile phone case, it will be shaped into a mobile phone case. If you need a notebook, it will be processed into the shape of a notebook.

The film and ink are stretched to a certain extent during molding.

A molding machine is required for molding. High, middle and low grades vary greatly: the simplest low-grade thermoforming machine is a hydraulic press, which is very simple. Some high-end vacuum or high-pressure forming machines have only male or female molds. After heating the film, the high-pressure gas is punched or sucked, or a combination of both. High pressure or vacuum are relatively expensive, and the equipment also has a single station or a double station, which will also lead to different prices.

3. Die cutting

After the film shell is formed, there must be some parts that are not needed, so the unnecessary parts should be cut off. This part is also a very important part of IMD. Some three-dimensional shapes are very difficult to cut. The accuracy of cutting and the shape of the cutting knife have a lot of experience. Especially some products that have high requirements for edge wrapping.

4. Injection

Injection molding is the last step. The adjustment of the process, the structure of the mold, and the choice of injection molding have a great influence on the final yield. There is no general rule here, because the shape of the product is quite different from the shape, and we can only rely on experience. In general, the gate of the mold should not be a point gate, and the low viscosity and high flow materials of the injection molding material should be selected as much as possible.

IMD injection molding does not have too high requirements for equipment, ordinary injection molding machine can. But when making many products, the vertical injection molding machine brings a lot of convenience, such as making products without holes, the film can be placed directly on the mold without the need for additional positioning facilities.
In addition, there is a device that can put two sets of female molds and one set of male molds, so that the two actions of one set of injection and the shell can not interfere with each other, shortening the injection time.
