China's packaging machinery must be updated

Total profits and taxes reached 435.2 billion yuan, up 25.5% year-on-year. Most of the food consumed in China comes from natural sources provided by large-scale agriculture. Due to a lack of sufficient processing equipment, many food resources cannot be properly processed, stored, or preserved, leading to losses amounting to several billion yuan annually. This highlights a significant market demand for food machinery. If the output value of food machinery accounted for 3.5% of the total food industry output in 2010, it would have exceeded 60 billion yuan—over two to three times the level in 2000. Currently, there are relatively few manufacturers in China specializing in professional research and development for packaging machinery. This remains a key challenge. However, through continuous efforts, domestic manufacturers have made notable progress in production, measurement, and technical performance. For instance, beverage filling equipment has become highly automated, reliable, and complete. Similarly, food packaging technology has seen major improvements, with mechanical-electrical integration driving higher demand for automated packaging machines. The market is constantly evolving, and so are the requirements for packaging machinery. Quality remains a top priority for enterprises. Companies should actively expand into international markets, allowing Chinese packaging machinery to gain global recognition. Since September, China’s machinery manufacturing industry has entered its peak season known as “Jin 9 Silver 10,” with many companies ramping up production to meet the growing demand at year-end. During an interview, reporters found that some previously unknown Chinese manufacturers have successfully expanded overseas, aided by the lingering effects of the financial crisis. This year, overseas orders have grown significantly. “We now have a lot of foreign orders, and we are struggling to keep up,” said Li Yong, General Manager of Wenzhou Dingye Packaging Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. According to his conservative estimate, overseas orders will increase by at least 20% in September and October this year compared to last year. Founded in 1991, Wenzhou Dingye is a leading company in the domestic packaging machinery industry. This year, the company introduced a newly developed packaging machine that filled a gap in the domestic market. Once launched, it quickly became popular and in short supply. Meanwhile, Wenzhou Dingye and other domestic food packaging manufacturers have gained recognition from foreign customers, often starting their international expansion during the financial crisis. Li Yong explained that before the financial crisis, European and American users had certain prejudices against Chinese packaging machinery. As a result, Chinese products were often exported to less-developed countries. However, due to the global financial crisis, many European and American companies reduced costs and began exploring cheaper alternatives, giving Chinese firms a chance to prove themselves. "After one year of use, foreign clients started to recognize the quality of our products," Li said. Last year, the company saw a 20% increase in sales driven largely by export growth, which was more than double their original target. By the end of August this year, sales had increased by 20.5%. "The financial turmoil hit many companies hard, but for us, it was an opportunity," Li added. Industry experts emphasize that in the face of rising market demands, Chinese food packaging machinery companies must catch up and even surpass their counterparts in developed countries. This requires accelerating independent innovation and developing a range of high-quality, internationally competitive products. While there are still few specialized R&D companies in the domestic market, ongoing efforts by manufacturers have led to significant improvements in performance, particularly in areas like high-speed beverage filling equipment and automation. With the rise of mechatronics, the demand for automated packaging machines has surged, signaling a bright future for the industry.
