The company is introducing a nitrogen-filled vacuum oven equipped with a centrifugal refrigeration compressor. This type of compressor operates on the principle of speed, using high-speed rotating impellers to increase gas pressure. Unlike volumetric compressors, centrifugal compressors allow for continuous gas flow, resulting in significantly higher flow rates—typically ranging from 0.03 to 15 m³/s. These compressors usually operate at speeds between 1,800 and 90,000 rpm, with suction temperatures around 10°C, suction pressures between 14 and 700 kPa, and discharge pressures below 2 MPa. The pressure ratio typically ranges from 2 to 30, making them suitable for a wide range of refrigerants. Currently, they are being used with R22, R123, and R134a, replacing older ozone-depleting refrigerants like CFCs. Centrifugal refrigeration compressors come in single, double, or multi-stage configurations. A single-stage unit consists of an inlet chamber, impeller, diffuser, and volute. Multi-stage models include additional components such as bends and return channels. Each stage, composed of an impeller and its associated parts, contributes to the overall pressure increase. In multi-stage compressors, several impellers are mounted on the same shaft to achieve higher pressure ratios. To optimize efficiency and prevent excessive discharge temperatures, large-stage compressors are often divided into sections, with intermediate cooling between low- and high-pressure stages. In a single-stage centrifugal compressor, the refrigerant gas enters the impeller through the inlet chamber. As the impeller rotates, the gas is accelerated by the blades, gaining kinetic energy and pressure. The gas moves radially outward due to centrifugal force, creating a low-pressure area at the inlet that continuously draws in more gas. After exiting the impeller, the gas flows into the diffuser and volute, where the cross-sectional area increases, slowing the gas down and converting most of its kinetic energy into pressure. This results in further pressure increase before the gas is discharged from the compressor.
