**Chinese Packaging Network News: Enhancing Moisture Resistance in Biscuit Packaging**
Biscuits are a popular crispy snack made primarily from wheat flour, with the addition of sugar, fats, and other ingredients, then baked to achieve their characteristic crunch. They are commonly consumed as a quick snack during travel, relaxation, or leisure time. However, biscuits are highly sensitive to moisture. In high-humidity environments, they can absorb water vapor from the air, leading to a loss of crispness and potentially creating conditions favorable for microbial growth, which may result in mold.
To maintain the quality and shelf life of biscuits, it is crucial to improve the moisture resistance of their packaging. By reducing the internal moisture content within the package, manufacturers can significantly enhance product stability and consumer satisfaction.
**Current Status of Biscuit Packaging Testing**
The most common packaging materials used for biscuits are plastic composite films and aluminum composite films. To evaluate the moisture permeability of these materials, several testing methods are employed in China, including the cup method (gravimetric), electrolytic method, moisture method, and infrared method. These tests are standardized under GB 1037-1988, GB/T 16928-1997, GB/T 21529-2008, and GB/T 30412-2013, among others.
**Test Sample**
In this study, an aluminum-coated composite film was selected as the test sample for biscuit packaging.
**Testing Equipment**
The Labthink W3/031 Water Vapor Transmission Rate Tester was used to assess the moisture barrier properties of the aluminum composite film. This device operates based on the gravimetric method, where a sample is placed between two chambers with different humidity levels. Water vapor diffuses through the material, causing a change in weight that is measured over time to calculate the transmission rate.
**Applications of the Equipment**
This equipment is versatile and suitable for a wide range of materials, including:
- Films: Plastic films, composite films, paper-plastic composites, geomembranes, coextruded films, aluminized films, and breathable films.
- Sheets: PP, PVC, PVDC, nylon, and similar materials.
- Paper and Cardboard: For moisture permeability testing.
- Textiles and Nonwovens: For evaluating breathability.
- Specialized Materials: LCD films, solar back sheets, sterile protective films, beauty masks, and protective clothing.
It complies with international standards such as ASTM E96, ASTM D1653, TAPPI T464, ISO 2528, DIN 53122-1, JIS Z0208, and more.
**Equipment Specifications**
- Test range: 0.1 ~ 10,000 g/m²·24h
- Accuracy: 0.01 g/m²·24h
- Simultaneous testing of 3 samples
- Temperature range: 15–55°C (±0.1°C)
- Humidity range: 10%RH–98%RH (±1%RH)
- Standard purge wind speed ensures stable humidity difference
- Two calibration methods: standard film and standard weight
- Patented mechanical design for accurate and stable measurements
- Lystemâ„¢ data management system for centralized test data
- Calibration data recovery function to prevent errors
**Testing Procedure**
1. Cut three 74 mm diameter specimens from the aluminum composite film.
2. Add distilled water to three moisture-permeable cups and attach each specimen.
3. Place the cups in the test chamber and close the door.
4. Set parameters in the software, start the test, and monitor weight changes over time to calculate the water vapor transmission rate.
**Test Results**
The water vapor transmission rates of the three samples were recorded as 1.032 g/m²·24h, 1.061 g/m²·24h, and 1.027 g/m²·24h, respectively.
**Conclusion**
Water vapor transmission rate is a critical performance indicator for biscuit packaging. It directly affects the quality and shelf life of the product. The W3/031 Water Vapor Permeability Tester is a reliable tool for assessing moisture barriers in soft plastic packaging. Its ease of use, high accuracy, and repeatability make it ideal for quality control in the food industry.

Ceramic Ochid Pot
Material: Ceramic orchid pots are typically crafted from clay-based materials that are fired at high temperatures to achieve durability and strength. They can vary in texture, from smooth and glossy to rough and matte, depending on the specific ceramic composition and finish.
Design: These pots often feature a wider base and narrower opening, providing stability for the orchid plant while allowing for proper aeration and drainage. The design may include decorative elements such as embossed patterns, painted motifs, or textured surfaces, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the pot.
Size: Ceramic orchid pots come in a range of sizes to accommodate different orchid species and growth stages. They can vary from small pots suitable for single orchid plants to larger containers capable of holding multiple plants or larger root systems.
Color: The color of ceramic orchid pots can vary widely, offering options to complement various orchid flower colors and interior or outdoor décor themes. Common colors include white, beige, terracotta, green, blue, and various shades of earth tones.
Drainage Holes: Proper drainage is crucial for orchid health, and ceramic orchid pots typically feature multiple drainage holes at the bottom to prevent waterlogging and root rot. These holes allow excess water to escape freely while providing adequate aeration to the orchid roots.
Saucer or Tray: Some ceramic orchid pots come with matching saucers or trays to catch excess water drainage, protecting surfaces from moisture damage and providing a tidy appearance.
Insulation: Ceramic pots offer some insulation against temperature fluctuations, which can be beneficial for orchids, helping to maintain stable root temperatures in varying environmental conditions.
Longevity: Ceramic orchid pots are known for their durability and can last for many years with proper care. They are resistant to fading, cracking, and weathering, making them a reliable choice for long-term orchid cultivation.
Overall, ceramic orchid pots blend functionality with aesthetics, providing a stylish and practical solution for growing orchids indoors or outdoors while enhancing the beauty of the plants they contain.
