The operating principle of PageMaker's color management system III

2. Color-to-color images define their device characteristics

Color images can be generated from different sources, such as drawing programs, scanners, and so on. If you created it with an application with CMS, this image contains the CMS's device profile, which specifies the color gamut of the image's color.

(1) Principles for using source description files when placing image files:

1 If the image was created with an application that supports the Kodak CMS, the PageMaker application
Kodak CMS source description file.

2 If the source description file specified in the image file is not available, the PageMaker application default CMS selects the default description file.

2 If there is no original description file specified in the image file, PageMaker applies the default CMS and selects the source description file that best matches the image color mode from the "RGB image source" and "CMYK image source".

4 If you want to change the device profile settings that PageMaker determines, you can reset the correct CMS source profile.

5 If the placed image is to be color corrected in an application such as PhotoShop, the source description file should be reset in PageMaker after editing.

(2) Two ways to set the color image device profile

A. Apply Source Description File When Placing Color Images

1 Select File/Place.

2 Select the image to place and click CMS Source.

3 From the CMS Source Profile dialog box, select a corresponding device description file.

4 Click OK.

B. Select a device profile for a color portrait in a publication

1 Select a color image. You can also select multiple images by holding down the Shift key.

2 Select “Components/Image/CMS Sources” to also select different CMSs for the image or turn off color management.

3 Select a signature file from the CMS Source Profile dialog.

4 Click OK.

3. Pre-separation function for color images

PageMaker preprocesses color images without having to do it in other software.

(1) Two types of space conversion

1 Convert the color image files of the RGB space in the template file into CMYK files according to the specific device feature file relationship.

2 Position one CMYK TIFF image to another CMYK output device.

(2) Several situations where pre-color separation processing is required

1 Perform CMYK color separation printing.

2 Further processing of publications does not support special color management.

3 Create a CMYK image and keep it on the OPI server.

4 The image is not corrected for RGB color space.

(3) Operation method of image pre-separation processing

1 Select the national image to be color-separated.

2 Select File/Export/Graphics. Select Save as Separations in the Output Image dialog box.

3 Type a name for a separation file and select the folder where the file is saved.

4 Click "Settings" and select a screen preview option.

"Do not enter the image" will not produce a low resolution screen pre-modern image of the image;

"Best" will produce a 72dpi resolution original image of the screen preview representation;

"Drafts" will produce a 36dpi resolving original image of the screen preview representation

5 Select "Link to new image".

6 Click Save.

Change the output device description file before printing

You can change the tool description file for the selected "Mixed Printer" or "Color Separation Printer" from the "Print" dialog box. Before printing on different output devices, change the device description file in "CMS Custom Format" to match the output device.

When using color management, do not change the device description file of the Separation Printer for best results. The choice of the color map is usually based on the device description file of the “color separation printer”, and changing the device description file of the “color separation printer” later in the color management process may not obtain the best results.

To change the user's output device description file before printing:

1 Select "File/Print". If you print on a Postscript printer, select the appropriate PPD for the output device.

2 Click on "Color".

3 Click CMS Settings.

4 Select the device description file for the "color mixing printer" or "color separation printer."

5 Click OK.

6 Select one of the following options:

* Select any of the additional print options and click Print.

* Hold down the Shift key and click Finish to save the new settings without printing.
