Using the attocube's liquid-free, low-temperature, strong-field confocal microscope in Germany, Professor Lu Chaoyang first discovered the single-photon emission point in a single-layer two-dimensional material, tungsten disilicide (WSe2). Single-photon emission in two-dimensional materials or to help the scientific community to find high-quality single-photon light sources (with high luminous efficiency, etc.) in the future has great practical significance in the field of quantum communication.

A single quantum usually has multiple degrees of freedom (both intrinsic and extrinsic), and there is a correlation between multiple degrees of freedom. In the field of quantum communication, how to simultaneously transmit multiple degrees of freedom of quantum is a recognized problem. In 2015, the research work "Quantum teleportation of multiple degrees of freedom of a single photon" (Nature 516, Vol518, 2015) published by Professor Lu Chaoyang and Academician Pan Jianwei broke the international academic community. Since 1997, only the limitation of single degree of freedom of elementary particles has been transmitted, opening up new ideas for quantum communication.

According to the Physical Review Letters of May 2016, Professor Lu Chaoyang used a variable temperature thermostat to study the single photon emission phenomenon in high quality quantum dots grown by molecular beam epitaxy, which confirmed the effect of single photon emission. (Near-Transform-Limited Single Photons from an Efficient Solid-State Quantum Emitter, PRL 116, 213601 (2016)). This work has important academic reference significance and is another firm step forward in the research of quantum communication.
