Characteristics of water-based varnish

1. Environmental protection and safety

Water-based varnishes use water as a dispersion medium, which can be diluted with water during the printing process. The equipment is cleaned with water. It does not produce harmful gases containing aromatic hydrocarbons. It is not easy to burn and explode. It is very safe to produce and store.

Solvent-based varnish can be divided into aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols. Aromatic varnishes contain a large amount of benzene-based harmful substances, which will seriously damage the health of the operator during the printing process, pollute the environment, and are flammable and explosive; while alcohol varnishes are relatively less toxic, But there are also flammable and explosive problems, and the safety problems in the production process are more prominent.

2. Equipment adaptability

The water-based varnish is mainly composed of water-soluble resin and water-dispersed resin. Changing the ratio of the two can flexibly adjust the viscosity of the varnish. This characteristic of it makes waterborne varnish adapt to almost all printing equipment requirements. The water-based glazing oil is a volatile drying type, and drying devices such as infrared rays and hot air can be used for drying the water-based glazing oil.

The solvent-based varnish is in the form of a resin solution with a small range of viscosity adjustment and poor adaptability to equipment.

UV varnish needs special UV curing equipment to match it.

3. Gloss

1) When processing high-gloss products, UV varnish has certain advantages, followed by solvent-based varnish, and water-based varnish is the worst. The gloss of the water-based glaze coating is low. On the one hand, it is due to the slow evaporation rate of water molecules, which is easy to make the coating film uneven during the evaporation of water; The surface smoothness of the coating film is affected. In order to improve the gloss of the water-based varnish coating, on the one hand, it is necessary to reduce the particle size of the emulsion as much as possible, so that the flatness of the coating film is correspondingly improved. In recent years, with the development of microemulsion polymerization technology, the gloss of water-based varnishes has been continuously improved. On the Other hand, a small amount of high-boiling solvent can be added to the aqueous glazing oil to swell the emulsion particles and promote the formation of a coating film with better flatness. After the above improvements, the gloss of the water-based varnish coating can reach more than 90%, which is close to the gloss level of the UV varnish coating, which can meet the requirements of general high-gloss products.

2) In the field of matt and matt products, to achieve a matt or matt effect, one method is to add a matting agent to the varnish; another method is to use two mutual Incompatible resin. In a solvent-based varnish, the resin exists in the form of a solution, and the two resins that are incompatible with each other cannot exist in the same system, and only the method of adding a matting agent can be used to achieve the purpose of controlling gloss. Increases the cost of the product. In aqueous varnishes, the resin exists in the form of an aqueous dispersion, which creates conditions for the presence of two incompatible resins in the same system. By changing the ratio of the two resins, the product can be flexibly adjusted The gloss, so as to achieve the effect of matt or none. It can be said that in the field of matt and matte glazing, water-based glazing oil has unique advantages.

4. Water resistance

In the water-based glaze system, due to the presence of a large number of carboxyl groups in the water-soluble resin and the hydrophilic properties of the emulsifier in the emulsion, the water resistance of the water-based glaze was once restricted. In recent years, with the advancement of emulsion-free emulsion polymerization technology and the emergence of functional hydrophobic additives, water-based varnishes have been greatly improved in waterproof performance, which can meet the requirements of general printed products for waterproof performance.

5. Smoothness of glazing products

Due to the large number of water-based coating slip additives, the slip problem of water-based varnishes has been completely resolved, and its performance in print smoothness is no less than that of any solvent-based products.

6. Wear resistance

After UV varnish is cured, its polymer resin will be cross-linked to form a body network structure, so its wear resistance is better. In solvent-based varnishes, the resin is in the form of a solution, and the molecular weight is generally around 10,000, and its wear resistance is the worst. In water-based varnish, the molecular weight of the emulsion can reach more than 200,000, so its wear resistance is also good. If anti-wear additives are added, the wear resistance can be greatly improved. Practice has shown that in the development of wear-resistant glazing oil, the reasonable selection of anti-wear agents can increase the wear resistance of the water-based glaze coating from about 20 times to more than 500 times, and the glazing effect is good.

7. High temperature resistance

The resins used in both water-based varnishes and solvent-based varnishes are thermoplastic resins. Due to the restriction of the softening point of the resin, their heat resistance limit is difficult to exceed 150 degrees Celsius. The waterborne two-component resin system that has just come out in recent years is expected to improve the high temperature resistance of waterborne glazing oils to a higher level, but from the current cost, curing conditions, product stability and compatibility with other components in glazing oils Considering other aspects, its application in water-based glaze still has certain difficulties. And after UV varnish is cured, due to the formation of a macromolecular network structure, its high temperature resistance is very excellent.

8. Production efficiency

The solvent of water-based glazing oil is water. Due to the greater heat of vaporization potential of water, the drying speed of water-based glazing oil is slower than that of solvent-based products at the same hot air temperature. But we can solve this problem by moderately increasing the temperature of the hot air.

Acrylic Sublimation Block (Acrylic sublimation blocks can be decorated easily by using any standard heat press machine and sublimation paper to produce bright colours and fantastic detail. With sublimation on the back of acrylic block-ranther than the "sandwich" type where a photo is simply printed onto paper and then sandwiched between two layers of acrylic, this acrylic block can be printed either portrait or landscape. In a word, acrylic Sublimation blocks provide a great way to display pictures, popular among professional photographers.
