CSNS neutron beam switch system prototype passed pre-acceptance

On July 31, the prototype of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) neutron beam switch system passed identification and pre-acceptance in Nanjing. The acceptance meeting was chaired by Cao Hui, deputy chief engineer of Nanjing Chenguang Group Co., Ltd., and researcher Chen Yuanbai, deputy manager of Chinese spallation neutron source, served as the head of the appraisal review team. The experts attending the site visited the prototype assembly site, watched the physical operation demonstration, and listened to the "design summary report", "development summary report" of the project team and the "test report" of the test team. After careful discussion, the expert group thought that the project had reached the prototype's performance indicators and agreed to pass the pre-acceptance.

The neutron beam line switch is one of the key equipment of the spallation neutron source. There are 20 sets in total, each set of gates corresponds to a spectrometer, which controls the opening and closing of each neutron beam line separately to ensure the effectiveness of the neutron beam Utilization and radiation safety. The prototype is composed of hydraulic system, neutron beam gate, mechanical self-locking support mechanism, neutron catheter floating self-positioning integrated plug-in unit, vacuum system, control system and monitoring system. The prototype has a total height of about 7 meters, a width of 4 meters, and a total weight of about 30 tons. The project was jointly developed by CSNS Experimental Sub-group and Nanjing Chenguang Group Co., Ltd., in which the hydraulic system and control system were developed by the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and Electromechanical Systems of Zhejiang University.

The neutron catheter insert of the prototype is designed as a floating self-positioning structure. A certain gap is reserved between the insert and the neutron beam channel of the gate, allowing the insert to float in the channel to achieve its repeated repeated position accuracy requirements. After 100 times of repeated operation tests on the prototype, the repeated positioning accuracy of the neutron catheter floating self-positioning insert is within ± 0.04mm, which is better than the design requirements. The neutron beam gate adopts a mechanical self-locking support mechanism, which is hydraulically driven and the medium is deionized water. The pure water hydraulic technology is successfully applied to the Chinese spallation neutron source project. Compared with similar equipment in the world, the prototype currently developed has reasonable structure and advanced performance, which is the first in China.

With the joint efforts of the technical personnel of both sides and the high attention and strong support of the leaders, the prototype development has achieved important results in stages. Yao Chenwen, deputy general manager of Nanjing Chenguang Group Co., Ltd., said that he would do his best to follow up the project and make greater contributions to the Chinese spallation neutron source project.
