I was inspired to create some stress toys for those hectic days, and when I stumbled upon these cute heart-shaped balloons from Tiger, I knew they’d be ideal. Regular-shaped balloons work just as well, though.
Truthfully, filling these balloons isn’t the easiest task. A larger balloon might have been simpler to handle. We stretched the balloon over a bottle and then carefully filled them. It helps if you inflate the balloon a bit first and then let the air out before adding the filler.
I experimented with two different fillings for the stress toys. Some were made with play dough inside, which resulted in a soft, squishy texture. Others had rice inside, and while they were a bit crunchier, they were still fun to squeeze. You could even try using lentils instead. I recommend testing both options to see which you prefer. The play dough was slightly trickier to insert into the balloon.
After filling the stress toys, they’re all set to use. Just remember to remind the kids not to put them in their mouths, of course!
The final products turned out super cute—perfect for slipping into your pocket. They’d be especially great for calming nerves on the first day of school. You could pair them with the book *The Kissing Hand* by Audrey Penn for an added touch of comfort.
One of the things I love about these stress toys is that you can create a whole rainbow of colors. Now I just need to figure out who among my family and friends needs one the most.
