During the third session of the 12th National People's Congress held on March 5 at 9:00 a.m. in the Great Hall of the People, Premier Li Keqiang delivered the government work report. In response to public concerns about sports-related issues, he emphasized that the development of national fitness, competitive sports, and the sports industry would be key to successfully bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The report outlined several key areas for progress. It called for the promotion of national fitness initiatives, the enhancement of competitive sports programs, and the growth of the sports industry. These efforts were seen as essential not only for improving public health but also for supporting China’s bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In addition, the report highlighted the importance of cultural development. It stressed that culture is the spiritual foundation and source of creativity for the nation. The government pledged to promote core socialist values, preserve traditional Chinese culture, and encourage the development of philosophy, literature, arts, media, and archives. It also emphasized the protection of cultural relics and intangible heritage, while encouraging reading and building a scholarly society.
The report also aimed to expand access to public cultural services, ensuring equitable distribution of cultural resources. It called for increased free access to public cultural facilities and the effective use of grassroots cultural centers. Efforts to reform the cultural system and integrate traditional and new media were also mentioned. Furthermore, it encouraged international cultural exchanges and enhanced global communication capabilities.
Another focus was on the development of health services, including elderly care and wellness. The service sector was recognized for its potential to create jobs and drive economic growth. The government planned to deepen reforms and open up the service industry, implementing supportive policies such as tax incentives, land use, and pricing measures. It also aimed to promote industries like tourism, health, elderly care, and creative design.
Additionally, the report emphasized the need to improve the circulation system, develop modern logistics infrastructure, and reduce the cost of goods through better storage, cold chain, and wholesale systems.
Overall, the report presented a comprehensive vision for national development, with a strong emphasis on sports, culture, and social welfare, all aimed at improving the quality of life for the people of China.
