The wicker beauty in furniture

Rattan furniture is an all natural product made from Rattan, a cane/bamboo-like plant that is related to the palms and usually found in abundance in the tropics. The tall slender rattan palm maintains a very uniform diameter along its length making it ideal for use. Rattan is harvested frequently, simply because of their rapid growth, much quicker than hardwood forests. Rattan is light but extremely strong, making it an ideal component for sturdy furniture. Rattan is one of the strongest natural timbers available.

Things to know about rattan and wicker

Rattan is a vine that grows in the tropical forests of the Far East. Growing hundreds of feet in length, it is one of nature`s strongest materials. It will not splinter or break and it`s ideal for making furniture. Once molded, solid rattan will retain its contours permanently. Peel is the outer skin of the rattan pole and is traditionally used to wrap joints. Wicker refers to products that are made from reed, cane, rush, willow or other natural materials. When wet, these materials are pliable enough to be woven.

Like any natural product, rattan furniture has slight variations in color and texture; this is natural and part of the beauty of rattan.

Disadvantages of natural rattan furniture

Outdoor Wicker Furniture

Natural rattan furniture can`t be exposed to harsh ultraviolet sunlight for prolonged periods of time, as this can affect the color.
As it is a natural untreated handmade product, it will absorb moisture and dry out in direct contact with climate conditions. To avoid any deterioration it is only suitable for use in a dry and ventilated environment.
