Use the right car seat for your child

Every year too many children are killed or seriously injured on our roads – often because they are not properly restrained when travelling in a car. All children up to 135cms (approx 4ft 5ins) in height, or up to 12 years of age (whichever occurs first), must use the appropriate child restraint.

It is the driver`s responsibility to ensure that any child under 14 years of age uses a seat belt or correct child restraint, and that any child restraint used conforms to EU safety standard UN ECE 44.03 or (i-Size) Regulation 129

(i-Size) Regulation 129 is a new standard of child car seat designed for children aged 0 - 15 months and up to 100 - 105 centimeters in height. This new car seat `clicks into` anchorage points in the structure of your car, which removes the need to use an adult seatbelt to secure the car seat in place.

The new (i-Size) car seat and the current Reg 44 standard child car seat are both legal. However, if you choose an i-Size seat, you will need to check that your car is fitted with ISOFIX anchorage points.

So make sure you understand the law and give your child the best possible protection
