Corn is used as a new packaging material

Recently, the Natural Foods Supermarket Group became the first grocery supermarket in the United States to use a new “green” package. This package looks like plastic, but it becomes compost after processing.
The transparent packaging that is currently being tested at 11 chains in the Pacific Northwest city of the United States is made from corn rather than petroleum products, so the interior of the supermarket is informally referred to as the "corn container." The supermarket also allows consumers to choose whether or not to return the containers to the store to send them back to the recycling company in Oregon. These containers will be composted and made into organic soil and sold in various chains.
Advocates of the product claim that products such as these derived from crops can reduce dependence on oil and reduce environmentally harmful emissions and landfill waste. Although the price of the product is 40% to 50% higher than that of plastic packaging, the supermarket has not passed on the extra cost to consumers. They predict that prices will decline with the popularity of the product.
