Dow and DuPont develop advanced materials to help Olympic athletes

Management officials at Dow and DuPont, the two largest chemical giants in the United States, recently stated that the development of new advanced materials used in sports equipment will help athletes achieve better results at the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Results.

"The company's newest high-performance elastomer, INFUSE Olefin Block Copolymers (OBCs), can be widely used in the soft touch field of sports equipment, including from swimming goggles," said Jordan Bast, Dow Elastomers' consumer market development manager. Seals and rubber bands, bicycle handles, racquet handles, foam fillers for neck guards, etc. In April this year, Dow Chemical Company introduced 9 newly developed OBCs, which will be sold as INFUSE OBCs after being available.

At present, Dow's elastomer products have been widely used in the field of sports equipment. The use of soft tactile materials made of such high-performance elastomers has better tactile sensation, comfort and impact absorption performance, which can make athletes more focused on competition.

DuPont's latest advanced material products will come from a new generation of nanocrystalline metal/polymer hybrid technology that can be used to produce ultra-light components needed in sports equipment. This new material has the same strength and hardness as metal, while at the same time it has the advantages of high-performance elastomer flexibility and light weight. However, according to Catherine Andriadis, DuPont's public affairs manager, this material is still in the early stages of launching the market. At the end of October 2007, DuPont started to establish technology alliances with Morph Technology Co., Ltd., Integran Technology Co., Ltd. and Power Metal Technology Co., Ltd. to develop and commercialize this technology.
