UV ink principle of use

UV ink is an environmentally friendly ink that has been rapidly developed in recent years. It quickly occupies the market with instant curing (drying), free of volatile solvents, and simple application. UV inks include UV frosting, UV ice cream, UV foam, and UV. Wrinkles, UV embossing, UV refraction, UV gemstones, UV light fixing inks, UV Varnish and other specialty packaging inks. On the surface of the substrate with metallic mirror gloss, UV ink is printed on the surface of the substrate with a screen printing process. After being treated with ultraviolet rays, the device produces a unique visual effect, which is elegant, dignified, and luxurious. Products are mainly used in high-end, exquisite chic tobacco, wine, cosmetics, health products, food, medicine and other packaging and printing.
First, UV ink 1. Composition UV ink is under the irradiation of UV light, cross-linked polymerization occurs, instantly cured film forming ink. It is mainly composed of photopolymerizable prepolymers, photosensitive monomers, photopolymerization initiators, organic pigments and additives. Among them, the photopolymerization initiator is the most important component of the entire UV ink and is the beginning of photopolymerization reaction.
2. UV ink application features:
(1) Instant curing, high production efficiency;
(2) does not contain volatile solvents; there will be no solvent erosion to destroy the print; will not pollute the human body and the environment;
(3) The ink will not plug the net, so the finest mesh can be used to print the best quality lines;
(4) The ink concentration is stable, and there is no uneven or too light unevenness due to different concentrations.
(5) The ink will not get rid of, no solvent odor;
(6) The speed of photo-curing is extremely fast, and the UV equipment is small in size and takes up less space in the plant;
(7) The heat emitted by the UV lamp will not cause damage to those prints that are afraid of heat;
(8) Transparent or translucent inks, hardening speed and color effect are good.
3. Curing Mechanism The UV ink is selectively absorbed by the UV light, and its drying is affected by the total energy of the light irradiated by the UV light source and the distribution of light energy at different wavelengths.
Under the irradiation of UV light, the photopolymerization initiator in the UV ink absorbs photons of a certain wavelength and is excited to an excited state to form radicals or ions. Then, a polymer such as a polymerizable prepolymer and a photosensitive monomer is brought into an excited state by energy transfer between molecules, and a charge transfer complex is produced. These complexes continuously crosslink and polymerize to form a film.
Second, UV light source 1. Construction UV light source is a device that emits UV light in a UV curing system. Usually consists of light boxes, lamps, mirrors, power supplies, controllers, and cooling devices. According to the different materials filled in the lamp, they can be divided into metal halide lamps, high-pressure mercury lamps, and odorless lamps. Its performance parameters mainly include: arc length, characteristic spectrum, power, working voltage, operating current and average life.
2. Spectral characteristics Although the UV light source emits the main UV light, it is not a single wavelength light but a light in one wavelength band. For different UV light sources, the wavelength range of the emitted light is different, and the spectral energy distribution in the waveband is also different.
The UV light source radiates light in one wavelength band, and the energy distribution of each wavelength light is not the same. Among them, the energy distribution of light having a wavelength of 300 to 310 nm and 360 to 390 nm is preferable.
Third, the use of UV inks 1, screen selection UV ink in the printing screen mesh number should be selected according to the fineness of the print pattern, printing effect, the required quality of the print may be. In general, the number of meshes for printing UV-fixing inks and UV-varnishes is more than 350 mesh.
2, ink using UV ink in the use of screen tension, printing pressure, scraping hardness, scraping glue angle and other factors will affect the quality of printing, effective technical control will improve the printing effect.
UV ink thinners are mostly special thinners. When purchasing UV inks, customers should consult the suppliers about the relevant performance and usage methods, reduce the defective rate in use, and avoid losses caused by improper use.
3. Precautions (1) High-power ultraviolet rays can cause damage to the eyes or the skin. The operator must be equipped with glasses or other protective measures.
(2) UV ink storage temperature should be above 5 °C, the ink will change due to light or temperature, so to avoid direct light.
(3) UV inks do not contain explosive or evaporating solvents. Due to exposure to UV light, they can cause reactions. Therefore, they cannot be dried in the screen before being exposed to light.
(4) Using a metal halide lamp, the irradiation distance is about 10cm, and one pass of light passes.
IV. Matching between UV ink and UV light source In summary, the matching between the UV ink and the UV light source is to make the light quantum selectively absorbed by the photopolymerization initiator used in the UV ink be the highest energy distribution in the UV light source spectrum. The printing company's technical department should obtain technical data on the spectral characteristics of the UV light source from its own equipment supplier, and then select from the ink supplier the UV ink whose response curve of the ink formulation matches the UV light source spectrum. This can be solved better. The matching of the two also provides the preconditions for considering other factors that affect drying.
Therefore, matching the UV ink with the UV light source will help to speed up the drying of the ink, improve the labor productivity, increase the utilization rate of energy, and reduce the production cost of the company. (Weekly)
