Weihai Ping Yu Fitness Center is set to open on April 11th, 2015, at 9:00 AM. The official opening ceremony will be held as part of the 5th National Fitness Games in Weihai City, organized by the Weihai Municipal Government Information Office. On the same day, three major events will take place at the center: the Commercial Bank National Fitness Games, table tennis competitions, and the 2015 Table Tennis Match for Primary and Secondary School Students. Nearly a thousand participants are expected to join, and the public can watch the matches for free.
Located in the southwest corner of the city's sports complex, Weihai Pingting Fitness Center is the largest professional ping-pong and badminton facility in the area. It spans approximately 29,000 square meters, featuring an underground parking garage with 103 spaces covering around 6,600 square meters. The first floor, about 5,220 square meters, houses sporting goods stores, while the second floor includes a multi-functional gymnasium. The third floor is dedicated to a table tennis hall covering 5,150 square meters, and the fourth floor contains a badminton complex with 4,000 square meters of playing space and over 600 seats in the stands.
The table tennis area features 40 international-standard tables, along with free locker rooms and shower facilities. The badminton courts, totaling 29, are fully equipped for national-level competitions. They include wooden keel flooring, crystal sand plastic pads, shadowless lighting, and full sets of Victor equipment, including two VIP courts for exclusive use.
According to Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Sports Bureau, Yu Nianhong, the center aims to support competitive training, host major sporting events, and provide recreational and fitness opportunities for residents. With approval from the Weihai Municipal Government, the Sports Bureau will manage the operation of the table tennis and badminton courts, as well as the surrounding market area. This new facility is expected to significantly boost local fitness activities and promote a healthier lifestyle across the city.
