Weihai Pingyu Fitness Center is set to open on April 11th, 2015, at 9:00 AM. The official opening ceremony will take place as part of the 5th National Fitness Games in Weihai City, hosted by the Weihai Municipal Government Information Office. On that day, three major events will be held at the center: the Commercial Bank National Fitness Games, a table tennis competition, and a badminton tournament. Additionally, the 2015 Table Tennis Match for Primary and Secondary School Students will also take place. Nearly 1,000 participants are expected, and the public can attend all events for free.
Located in the southwest corner of the city sports complex, Weihai Pingyu Fitness Center is the largest professional ping-pong and badminton facility in the area. With a total construction area of approximately 29,000 square meters, the building includes an underground garage covering about 6,600 square meters with 103 parking spaces. The first floor, spanning around 5,220 square meters, houses a retail space for sports equipment, while the second floor features a multi-functional gymnasium. The third floor includes a dedicated table tennis hall of about 5,150 square meters, and the fourth floor is home to a large badminton complex with four courts and seating for over 600 spectators.
The ping-pong hall is equipped with 40 international-standard tables, along with free locker rooms and shower facilities. The badminton area boasts 29 professional courts, featuring wooden keel flooring, crystal sand plastic pads, and high-quality lighting systems. All courts are outfitted with Victor brand equipment, including umpire stations and two VIP courts for elite players.
According to Deputy Secretary Yu Nianhong from the Municipal Sports Bureau, the center is designed not only to host major competitions but also to provide top-tier fitness and recreational opportunities for local residents. It aims to promote national fitness activities across the city. The Weihai Municipal Government has approved the Sports Bureau to manage the operation of the table tennis and badminton courts, as well as the surrounding commercial space. This new facility marks a significant step forward in enhancing sports infrastructure and encouraging active lifestyles in Weihai.
